Tips for Avoiding Burnout at College of the Ozarks

Introduction

As college students it is important to manage burnout. with classes, work events, off campus work (for those who work) it becomes a hectic lifestyle fast and feels like you're never slowing down.

58% of college students report experiencing feelings of burnout, with anxiety and depression. alongside, Over 80% of students say they are struggling emotionally to some degree. It is crucial to find a balance between school and life.


Effective Study Techniques to Prevent Burnout

  • Create a Consistent Study Schedule

Blocking out time every day is an effective way to make time to get assignments done well. How i try to get my assignments done is by completing them as soon as they're assigned. that way, I don't have to worry about it last minute.

  • Apply Active Learning Methods

There are many different techniques that will help learn your study study such as repitition, recall, and different break techniques that you can use to avoid burnout and increase higher grades.

  • Break Tasks into Manageable Chunks

Divide larger assignments or study sessions into chunks. try the Pomodoro Technique- a study technique where you study for 25 minutes and take a break for around 5 minutes. it breaks up the time enough to avoid mental burnout.

  • Seek Academic Support Resources

There are many resources on campus such as the math and physics department, the writing center and the student success center that provide free resources for students in order to succeed.


Social Strategies to Maintain Balance and Reduce Stress

  • Build a Supportive Friend Group

building friendships can help balance stress and make life easier because you have a support system to help you through hard times.

  • Attend campus events if you can

    Attending events makes it easier to stay plugged in and motivated throughout your time in school.


Prioritize self care

  • Establish a Consistent Sleep Schedule

Go to bed and wake up at the same times daily allows you to function better throughout the day and feel more refreshed.

  • Allow self care nights where you aren't studying.

I'm not encouraging avoiding stu

dying, but having a self care routeine makes avoiding burnout so much better.

  • Take advantage of the counseling center

Located in the christian ministries building on campus, there are free counseling resources on campus. taking care of your mental health is a form of self care.
